Be smart, play smart, and pickup craps the proper way!

Dice and dice games goes back to the Crusades, but current craps is approximately a century old. Modern craps formed from the ancient English game called Hazard. No one knows for sure the birth of the game, however Hazard is said to have been discovered by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, in the 12th century. It’s supposed that Sir William’s knights enjoyed Hazard during a blockade on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was gotten from the citadel’s name.

Early French colonizers imported the game Hazard to Canada. In the 18th century, when expelled by the British, the French relocated south and found safety in the south of Louisiana where they at a later time became known as Cajuns. When they departed Acadia, they brought their favored game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns simplified the game and made it fair mathematically. It is said that the Cajuns altered the name to craps, which is gotten from the name of the losing throw of 2 in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi scows and all over the nation. Many consider the dice maker John H. Winn as the father of modern craps. In the early 1900s, Winn designed the modern craps setup. He created the Do not Pass line so players could wager on the dice to lose. Afterwords, he invented the spaces for Place bets and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
