Be clever, play clever, and master craps the correct way!

Dice and dice games goes back to the Crusades, but current craps is just about 100 years old. Current craps developed from the old Anglo game referred to as Hazard. No one knows for sure the origin of the game, but Hazard is believed to have been invented by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the 12th century. It is supposed that Sir William’s horsemen bet on Hazard through a siege on the fortress Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was gotten from the citadel’s name.

Early French settlers imported the game Hazard to Canada. In the 18th century, when displaced by the British, the French relocated south and settled in southern Louisiana where they a while later became Cajuns. When they fled Acadia, they took their best-loved game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns streamlined the game and made it more mathematically fair. It is said that the Cajuns altered the name to craps, which is acquired from the term for the bad luck toss of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi river boats and all over the country. A great many consider the dice maker John H. Winn as the father of current craps. In the early 1900s, Winn created the current craps layout. He put in place the Don’t Pass line so players can bet on the dice to lose. At another time, he created the spots for Place bets and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
