Be brilliant, play cunning, and master craps the correct way!
Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes all the way back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is only about a century old. Modern craps developed from the ancient English game called Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the birth of the game, however Hazard is believed to have been invented by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, in the twelfth century. It’s presumed that Sir William’s knights wagered on Hazard during a blockade on the citadel Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was gotten from the fortress’s name.
Early French colonizers imported the game Hazard to Canada. In the 1700s, when expelled by the British, the French moved south and located safety in southern Louisiana where they eventually became Cajuns. When they were driven out of Acadia, they took their favorite game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it fair mathematically. It is said that the Cajuns altered the name to craps, which was acquired from the name of the non-winning throw of two in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi barges and all over the country. A good many acknowledge the dice builder John H. Winn as the founder of current craps. In 1907, Winn designed the modern craps setup. He appended the Do not Pass line so gamblers can wager on the dice to not win. Later, he invented the spaces for Place bets and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
