Be clever, play smart, and pickup craps the right way!

Dice and dice games goes back to the Crusades, but current craps is only about 100 years old. Current craps developed from the old Anglo game called Hazard. Nobody knows for sure the ancestry of the game, although Hazard is said to have been created by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the twelfth century. It’s supposed that Sir William’s knights bet on Hazard through a siege on the citadel Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was gotten from the citadel’s name.

Early French settlers brought the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 18th century, when expelled by the English, the French relocated south and settled in the south of Louisiana where they at a later time became Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they brought their best-loved game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns simplified the game and made it mathematically fair. It’s said that the Cajuns changed the name to craps, which is derived from the name of the bad luck toss of two in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi riverboats and across the country. Most think the dice maker John H. Winn as the founder of current craps. In the early 1900s, Winn designed the current craps layout. He put in place the Don’t Pass line so gamblers could wager on the dice to lose. At another time, he invented the spaces for Place wagers and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
